Belgium Beat Romania to Register First Win at Euro 2024

Tielemans Scored Superb Opener Inside First Two Minutes

Belgium got their Euro 2024 campaign off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory over Romania in Bucharest on Saturday. Youri Tielemans gave the Red Devils the lead inside two minutes with a superb strike from outside the box, and Kevin De Bruyne doubled their advantage just before half-time.

Romania Can Advance to the Knockout Stage With a Game to Spare

The win takes Belgium top of Group B with four points from two games, while Romania remain bottom with one point. Romania can still advance to the knockout stage with a game to spare if they beat Finland in their final group game on Wednesday, while Belgium will need to avoid defeat against Denmark to secure their place in the last 16.

Match Highlights

Belgium started the game brightly and took the lead with just two minutes on the clock. Tielemans picked up the ball just inside the Romania half and drove forward before unleashing a powerful shot that flew into the top corner of the net. Romania responded well to going behind and had a few chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past Thibaut Courtois in the Belgium goal.

Belgium doubled their lead just before half-time when De Bruyne scored a stunning goal. The Manchester City midfielder received the ball on the left wing and cut inside before curling a shot into the far corner of the net. Romania made a few changes at half-time in an attempt to get back into the game, but they were unable to create any clear-cut chances.

Belgium controlled the tempo of the game in the second half and never looked like conceding. They had a few chances to extend their lead, but they were unable to find a third goal. In the end, Belgium held on for a comfortable 2-0 victory.
